In 1963, from a jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Martin Luther King penned his historic "Letter from Birmingham City Jail." Its message was anointed, powerful and prophetic. Dr. King challenged the church and her leaders to step out of their apathy, comfort and indifference and boldly confront the evil of segregation.
"We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the vitriolic words and actions of bad people, but for the appalling silence of good people."
In 2009, nine members of the Survivors Campus Life Team spent a night in that same jail in Birmingham, this time for refusing to remain silent in defense of innocent preborn children threatened by abortion. The Campus Life Team members were violently arrested on the sidewalk in front of a Birmingham public high school during a Campus Life Tour event.
Not only were the charges against the Survivors dropped, but the Survivors legal team refused to allow the Birmingham police to continue such persecution of pro-lifers and sought an injunction. With the injunction in place, the Survivors returned to Birmingham in 2010 to witness for life at the University of Alabama. Once again, because of their uncompromising stand for the preborn, the Survivors were arrested.
Now, the 2010 Campus Life Tour is returning to the city where Dr. King and the Survivors were jailed for their courageous actions.
Join the Survivors and other national pro-life organizations as they stand up against the injustice and reclaim their first amendment right to free speech on public property in Birmingham, Alabama. The innocent children targeted by abortion in America have no voice, and the Survivors are committed to speaking for them. Without the right to free speech, the voices of the preborn are silenced.
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
